  1. A UPS really protects against blackouts and brownouts, but it's only good for mission critical or data intensive equipment. Yeah it could be used for server duty and telecom businesses too.

    But a good bit of info here is that for personal daily use, it's not wholly recommended as far as the price goes. It's good if your area is prone to outages, but not so practical if it really rarely happens.
